Katrina Kaif Biography
Katrina Kaif is an Indian film actress and a former model. She has appeared mainly in Hindi movies. Katrina Kaif has also acted in Telugu and Malayalam movies apart from Hindi movies. She was voted as the “Hottest Woman in the World” by Eastern Eye consecutively for 3 years.
Katrina Kaif was born in Hong Kong to an Indian Kashmiri father Mohammed Kaif and an British mother Suzzane Turquotte both of whom are British citizens. She has seven siblings. When Katrina Kaif was very young her parents divorced. Her family later moved from HongKong to China and other East European countries and later moved to her mother’s home country England. She is speculated to have lived in London before moving back to Mumbai.
Katrina Kaif began her modelling career at the age of fourteen and attained her first job for a Jewelry campaign. She worked for an agency called ‘Models 1 Agency’ and did campaigns for houses such as La Senza and Arcadius and even walked for the London Fashion Week. Infact, her modelling work led to her discovery by London based director Kaizad Gustad, and she was given a part in the film ‘Boom’ (2003). Later Katrina Kaif moved to Mumbai to pursue her acting career. She was offered a number of modelling assignments when she landed in Mumbai. However,film makers were hesitant initially on casting her as she did not know Hindi.
After suffering a few initial hiccups, she was offered a role in Sarkar (2005) opposite Abhishek Bachchan as his girlfriend. The movie recieved moderate success in the box office. Later in the year, she was cast in another movie ‘Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya’ (2005) opposite Salman Khan. She was then cast opposite Akshay Kumar in the movie ‘Humko Deewana Kar gaye’ (2006).
In 2007, Katrina Kaif appeared in her first superhit film ‘Namastey London’ as a British Indian girl opposite Akshay Kumar. Thereon, she gave a number of Hit films like ‘Apne’, ‘Partner’ and ‘Welcome.’
She played a Villian for the first time in Abbas-Mustan’s hit action thriller ‘Race’ (2008) where she played the role of Saif Ali Khan’s secretary. Katrina Kaif’s second release that year was ‘Singh is Kinng’ opposite Akshay Kumar which recieved great success at the Box office. Afterwards, she starred in her final release for the year 2008 in Subhash Ghai’s ‘Yuvvraaj’ which was a commercial failure although its script made its way into the Library of the ‘Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences’ for artistic merits, original screenplay with a substance, and the film as a whole.
Katrina Kaif’s biggest release in 2009 was ‘New York’ opposite John Abraham which recieved critical as well as commercial success. She was highly regarded for her performance and went on to prove that given a substantial role she could deliver any role flawlessly.
Katrina Kaif next went on to play a brief role of that of a biker in the multi-starrer film ‘Blue’ Popularly known as the underwater thriller. This movie performed decently at the Box Office but was not very successful.
At the ending of 2009, Katrina appeared in ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ opposite Ranbir Kapoor and ‘De Dana Dan’ opposite Akshay Kumar both of which were commercial successes.
Katrina Kaif’s first movie of the year 2010 was ‘Rajneeti’ which did extremely well at the Box office and was given a Blockbuster status. She appeared with Ranbir Kapoor for the second time with the movie ‘Rajneeti’ and was hugely praised for her performance.
Katrina Kaif was recently seen in Farah Khan’s ‘Tees Maar Khan’ opposite Akshay Kumar. Altough the movie did not achieve success, her song ‘Sheila Ki Jawani’ was a big hit and has gained her a huge fan base.
