Dabangg 2 collects record Rs21cr on opening day

Dabangg 2, the sequel to 2010 Bollywood blockbuster Dabangg has managed to surpass the opening day collections of the original movie. It amassed Rs21.10 crore in India on the day of its release.

The movie starring Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha, which hit screens Friday, is the directorial debut of actor-producer Arbaaz Khan. Opening up to packed houses, Dabangg 2 managed to rake in Rs21.10 crore on the opening day itself, surpassing the first day collections of even Akshay Kumar's Rowdy Rathore, which earned Rs15 crore. It is said to one of the highest opening for any non-holiday release in Bollywood till date. It was a non-holiday release too.

The original Dabangg was directed by Abhinav Kashyap, and it had managed to rake in Rs14.5 crore on its first day, nationally.

Salman Khan is being considered for a Yash Raj film to be directed by Kabir Khan, with Katrina Kaif paired opposite him. There is however one thing left to work out -- the contract. Seems Salman isn’t happy with YRF sharing Shahrukh’s contract with him and is only interested in looking at Aamir Khan’s contract.

YRF recently signed Aamir Khan to play the villain in Dhoom 3. Speculation is that the perfectionist Aamir was signed at a sky-high price, as an exception. In contrast Shahrukh Khan who is a regular with the Chopras, like many other actors may have been willing to accept a lower package to work with the Yash Raj banner.

For Salman, who usually linkes to work within the friends and family circle, this will be first time he will sign a film with the Yash Raj banner and considering the success of Dabangg, the buzz around Ready, he sees no reason to compromise on the remuneration.

Katrina Kaifs' lunch at Salman Khans' pad

Jab they met over a lunch that too at Salman Khan’s apartment. There is good news for all the fans of Katrina Kaif and Salman. Both the stars are working together in Kabir Khan’s film which is tentatively titled Ek Tha Tiger, and not Sher Khan. Just yesterday, Salman and Kat, met, shot, and did lunch together.

Sonakshi Sinha Anushka Rani and Priyanka Dadasaheb Phalke Awards 2011

The event was attended by Rani Mukherjee, Priyanka Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Sonakshi Sinha, Rekha and Asha Parekh, among others. However, Aamir Khan, who was supposed to attend the show, decided to skip it.

Dharmendra was bestowed with the Phalke Ratan, Asha Parekh received the legendary icon cine artist award, Rani got outstanding performance in the film award for "No One Killed Jessica" and Priyanka received memorable performance award for "Saat Khoon Maaf".

"I felt really nice getting this award because this is an award from our industry. I'm very happy, " Asha Parekh told reporters here.

Echoing a similar stance, Rani said: "This is my first award for ' Jessica... ' and that too this award. So I'm very happy."

Anushka was honoured for the excellent performance in the film "Band Baaja Baarat" and her co-actor of the film got the best debut award.

Bollywood Star Salman Khan starrer Ready to release May 27

The release date of Salman Khan's action comedy "Ready" has been decided -- it will hit the screens May 27 Next year.

Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film brings Salman and Asin Thottumkal together after box office dud "London Dreams".

"The schedule of ' Ready ' is moving smoothly and it's been great Fun working with Salman. We share a great Friendship and a fantastic working equation. It's overwhelming to see his commitment towards the movie, " producer Bhushan Kumar of T-series said in a statement.

"He is a thorough professional and is always there with interesting inputs wherever need be..., he is like family."

"Ready" also reunites Kumar with Salman after "Lucky - No Time For Love" and the producer promises that the film will be a complete entertainer with a mix of action and comedy.

Salman Khan won’t get cosy with Sonakshi Sinha

The Hindi remake of the Telugu blockbuster Kick is undergoing the process of script overhaul because the leading man Salman Khan is squeamish about cosying up to his co-star Sonakshi Sinha in the film.

After a long gap, producer Sajid Nadiadwala is working with Salman Khan again in the remake of Kick. But the film won’t be an exact copy of its Telugu original that had intense passion play between its leading stars Ravi Teja and Illeana D’Cruz. Obviously Salman saw the film he balked at the thought of canoodling with Sonakshi Sinha who is 22 years younger than him.

Salman is a very good friend of Shatrughan Sinha and very protective of Sonakshi. Even in Dabangg, if you recall, he had no intimate scenes with Sonakshi even though he was the dominating partner in the relationship.

So Salman’s brief to Nadiadwala for the Kick remake is simple -- chop out all the physical intimacy between the characters and make the romance more muted through silent glances, gestures and talks.

Nadiadwala has confirmed that the script is being reworked to tone down the intimacy between the leading characters. But the gist of the story will remain the same.

Salman Khan turns into a handsome bodyguard for Kareena Kapoor in producer Atul Agnihotri’s upcoming film Bodyguard.

In the movie, Salman plays a brawny bodyguard who takes on the job of guarding Kareena Kapoor, the daughter of a liquor baron. Salman accompanies her to college and never leaves her side, much to her annoyance. So Kareena along with her friend (played by Hazel Keech) tries to fool Salman by calling him from an anonymous phone number and pretending that she (the caller) is in love with him. The charade turns real when Kareena actually falls for Salman but fears her powerful father.

It’s learnt that Salman observed the real bodyguards of VVIPs at the Cricket World Cup matches to understand their mannerisms and body language.

“Salman Khan wanted to know the body language of SPG. These guys are trained to blend and protect Z plus personalities. All protection is an eye play. Salman, though not a frantic cricket buff watched the Indo-Pak match without missing a second,” producer Atul Agnihotri is quoted to have said.

‘Bodyguard’ is set for release in August this year. It is a remake of the last year’s Malayalam blockbuster of the same title. Siddique, who directed the original film, directs the Hindi remake as well.

A source told a leading newspaper,’ She was the center of attention and she had several good modeling assignments coming her way there. But she wasn’t sure how to channel it. When SRK, a family friend, learned of this, he advised Preeti to pack her bags and migrate to Mumbai. Preeti took his advice and she’s not regretting it one bit.’

The model-turned actress who is famously dating actor Abhay Deol told the newspaper who her favorite actors are, ‘I admire Shahrukh Khan, like many others do, for a quality that I just cannot put my finger on. But then I also admire Aamir Khan for his intelligent choices in films. He is so gutsy and gritty. He had the conviction to do films like Lagaan and Taare Zameen Par which no leading actor would’ve thought of signing up for.’

Shahrukh Khan Will Dance at IPL 4 Inaugural

Actor Shahrukh Khan is all set to perform before the opening match, kick starting IPL season 4

Chennai will see the ultimate mix of cricket and Bollywood tomorrow. Superstar Shahrukh Khan will be in the coastal city to perform at the inaugural ceremony to kick off Indian Premier League season 4.

N Srinivasan of Team Chennai validated this information, ‘Yes, he’s performing at the event.’  A source close to the actor tells us, ‘The actor is rehearsing in Mumbai at the moment for the big event. He will land in the city this afternoon.’ All 50,000 seats of the M.A Chidambaram Stadium are said to be sold out.

The IPL’s inaugural match will be played between defending champion India Cement’s Chennai Super Kings and Shahrukh’s Kolkata Knight Riders. The Chennai team not only has home-ground advantage but also have ICC World Cup winner M.S Dhoni as their skipper. Dhoni who is currently sporting a new hairdo said, ‘I simply cut my hair after the World Cup win. But, considering the heat in Chennai, I think it’s a good decision!”
